京都 2005.04.08 () - Farewell and the Return

I finished up packing and cleaning up the room in the morning. I left the ありがとう maze, three highlighter pens, and some めいし for えいじ, ゆい, and みちる.

By the time I got downstairs, I still had about an hour left before やさか was due to arrive. I went out one last time by the river, and took a great many more pictures of the cherry blossoms. Shortly after I returned, えいじ told me that the やさか van was waiting for me... I hastily purchased one of ゆい's postcards, and then hauled my bags out. All the guesthouse staff followed me out and saw me off, which was fantastic.

The van was sort of funny, in that he drove me (and no one else) to another part of 京都, where we waited for a little while, and then I got transfered to another (mostly full) van. That van went all the way to the airport, with just one stop at a rest stop. The security checks at the airport were pretty meaningless, and then I got on one of the lobby-to-terminal trains. I stopped by a Starbucks there for some sort of caramel donut snack, after setting aside a 2000 bill (for myself) and one of each type of coin (for a gift). At that point, I had 122 left. Next I went to the gate and waited for my flight. The curved glass design of the airport is pretty interesting... When boarding the plane, they have automatic ticket feeders, like at the train stations.

A Japanese girl sat by me on the flight back, who was going to Vancouver to visit people, but we didn't talk much. Although I missed the conversation, the flight back did have a better movie (The Incredibles), and I was better prepared to listen to music and snack...

Got customs searched in Vancouver, but it was no big deal. Took another turbo prop flight back to Portland, going right over Seattle. Maxed back to my apartment, and arrived about 3 hours before my flight left Japan...
